SOME OF THE WORLD’S RAREST PRIMATES

Visit some of the extraordinary natural gems of China in remote wilderness worlds that range from high elevation mountains to tropical rainforest. These regions are home to colorful Chinese minorities and contain some of the rarest and most unusual wildlife in the world.

The journey begins in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, a major Chinese city of impressive scale and modernity. The city is also a gastronomic treasure chest of “hot pots” and other local specialties, some to be sampled. Fly to Huanglong and Juizhaigou National Parks, both offering unforgettable geological wonders. In Juizhaigou a long natural staircase of travertine terraces captures water in aquamarine pools of surreal beauty. In both parks forest-draped mountains reveal stunning panoramas.

UNDUPLICATED LANDSCAPES OF COLOR

For a period of only a few weeks each year in May, areas of Yunnan Province explode in an astonishing agricultural patchwork of colors known as the “Redlands”. Fields in the hills & valleys become a kaleidoscope of red, orange, green, brown, ochre, yellow & white creating vistas unduplicated anywhere in the world.

End the journey in the tropical forest of Tacheng National Park where wild endangered Black Snub-nose Monkeys come to feed at a ranger station then fade back into the jungle—one’s only chance to see and photograph these elusive deep forest primates. The Hornbill Valley Extension is available for those who want more time in the mountains of  Yunnan Province to photograph birds and other wildlife such as the Golden Takin.
